POSITION SUMMARY:

The Golf Course Turf Technician plays a vital role in ensuring that Brickyard Crossing Golf Course is prepared daily to meet golfer expectations. Working with the Manager of Golf Course, the Golf Course Turf Technician helps create an efficient and safe work environment. The Golf Course Turf Technician performs task such as course setup, plant protectant applications, operates various golf and grounds specific equipment, assists in training seasonal staff on golf related jobs, organize and leads smalls crews, assists in and leading projects that improve the golf and or grounds turf.



SPECIFIC DUTIES:
  • Assists Manager of Golf Course in ensuring the golf course is prepared to set daily expectations.
  • Coordinates with Senior Technician and Technicians to maintain and install irrigation and drainage on the golf course.
  • Assists in, and may oversee, that chemical and fertilizer applications made throughout the IMS property are done so in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Coordinates tree fertility and trimming of golf course trees with Manager of Horticulture.
  • Leads fertility applications made to the golf course.
  • Operates golf course maintenance equipment including utility vehicles and attachments, trim mowers, walking and riding greens mowers, approach and apron mowers, tee mowers, fairway mowers, rough mowers and attachments, power rakes, sodcutter, topdressers, aerifiers, seeders, power edgers, chain saws, power tools, leaf/debris removal equipment, tractors and attachments, loaders, forklifts, and trucks.
  • Utilizes proper hand tools to make repairs to damaged turf areas.
  • Routinely scouts golf course turf for abnormal turf conditions, reports to Senior Manager, and creates action plans for correcting.
  • Works with Senior Manager and Manager to develop and train staff on proper and efficient hand watering tactics.
  • Trains seasonal employees on the proper and safe use of all equipment on the golf course.
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to the company and the Vision, Mission and Values.
  • Sub for Manager of Golf Course in their absence. Lead up weekend golf course staff when applicable.
  • Assists Manager of Grounds and Horticulture as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Supervisory Responsibilities
  • No direct reports but may supervise and follow up with employees on projects and or daily tasks.
Education
  • High school graduate or GED
Skills/Experience
  • Minimum 2 years of golf or grounds experience preferred.
  • Practical experience with comparable golf course preferred but not required.
  • High integrity.
  • Knowledge of safe mechanical operation of equipment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Knowledge of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the game of golf and associated etiquette.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather.
  • Innovative thinker and self-starter.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to obtain Class 3A Certified and Licensed Applicator program by the Office of the Indiana State Chemist within 90 days of start.
  • Requires valid driver's license.
  • Commitment to working with people from diverse backgrounds and commitment to cultural competency.
  • Ability to uphold and consistently demonstrate the Penske Entertainment Standards.
Travel/Work Hour/Flexibility
  • General office hours are Monday – Friday 8 hour days. Start time is season dependent.
  • Longer hours and weekends required during the golfing season and the Month of May.
  • Penske Entertainment acknowledges that the need for flexibility varies across all companies/departments and is not best addressed by a one size fits all flexible work policy. As such, the company encourages supervisors to work with their employees to leverage flexibility as needed to support a healthy balance.
  • No required travel.

  • Working in the golf and grounds department requires the employee to work outside through Indianapolis diverse climate. Employees will often operate equipment that may be loud and or dusty.
