Full job description
The Essex County Club was founded in 1893 and is home to one of the finest Donald Ross golf courses in the country. We are situated about 35 minutes north of Boston and only 2 miles from the beach. In addition, we have ten grass and ten clay tennis courts, three paddle tennis courts, and a full size swimming pool. Essex was admitted as the sixth member of the USGA and has hosted many prestigious tournaments over the years. Club members, Margaret and Harriot Curtis, together donated the Curtis Cup which fosters international competition between a team of the best female amateurs in the United States and a team from Great Britain and Ireland. The Club was honored to host the 1938 and 2010 Curtis Cup Matches. Other large events hosted at Essex include the 1995 USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship, along with several state and regional competitions. Tournament golf will return to Essex with the 2023 Massachusetts Amateur Championship. Approximately 18,000 rounds are played annually at Essex County Club.

The golf course is currently ranked #73 in the country by Golf Digest, #82 by Golf Magazine and #43 (Classic) by Golfweek Magazine. The golf shop also won 2019 Merchandiser of the Year for the New England Section.

Outside Operations Staff Member

Job Summary

This position reports to the Head Golf Professional, Outside Operations Manager and the professional staff. As an outside operations staff member, your job is to assist with the day to day outside operations and provide other profes- sional services to ensure an exceptional customer service experience.

Duties or Functions
  • Provide an exceptional service environment, meeting and exceeding the expectations of members and guests
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Outside Operations Manager and professional staff
  • Assist members and guests with their golf bags, push carts and other needs related to playing or practicing golf
  • Ensure that the staging area, bag room, cart barn and other assigned areas are clean and presentable at all times
  • Work with the Outside Operations Manager to maintain the golf cart fleet, including charging and daily cleaning
  • Responsible for the set up, upkeep and breakdown of the practice facilities, including the driving range and short game areas
  • Provide and replenish on course drinking water
  • Opportunity to caddie if interested
  • Actively participate in outside operations. Work with the Outside Operations Manager and the professional staff to familiarize yourself with all aspects of the operation, including the bag room, golf carts, on-course water, staging area, practice facilities and member relations

  • Perform bending, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping
  • Verbal and listening ability
  • Ability to visually observe the condition of surroundings
  • Ability to work in inclement weather when necessary
