General Purpose & Job Description
The Merchandising Manager position for GlobalGolf.ca is critical to the success of the Company’s operations in Canada. The individual that holds this position will be responsible for managing all vendor relationships in Canada, as well as managing the procurement of products to be carried on the GlobalGolf.ca website and merchandising of those products.
GlobalGolf has quickly become the world’s largest e-commerce platform for new golf gear and preowned golf equipment. As a team member of GlobalGolf, you will be responsible for working with all members of the Purchasing Team, both in Canada and the U.S., as well as engaging with other departments throughout the Worldwide Golf organization.
The essential job function of this position is to work with all of the Company’s Canadian vendors to purchase products for the site, merchandise and price them accordingly. The GlobalGolf.ca site was launched in mid-2017 and has grown quickly to become one of the leading golf e-commerce sites in the country.
The Merchandising Manager position will be responsible for continuing to drive strong revenue growth in Canada by working with the Merchandising and Marketing teams in the U.S. to develop marketing and promotional activities that are appropriate for the Canadian golf market. Other job functions include –
- Develop intimate product knowledge in multiple categories for the purpose of accurate website representation
- Build relationships with our Canadian vendors and be their first choice for any limited edition product offerings and opportunity buys
- Review products lines from all vendors and help make the decision on products to carry on the website for each season
- Regularly evaluate inventory movement and Quantity On Hand levels to identify product replenishment needs on a timely basis
- Create Purchase Orders on a timely basis for all new launch products for each season and also for replenishment needs
- Engage with the Marketing Team on a weekly basis to propose items for promotions across multiple marketing channels
- Analyze the GlobalGolf.ca site regularly to confirm all products are priced appropriately and merchandised utilizing the UNBXD program
- Analyze sales and inventory reports on a weekly basis to check sell-thru and initiate markdowns and inventory balancing transfers with our U.S. facilities
- Work on budgets within the Open-To-Buy (“OTB”) plans to ensure proper inventory levels are maintained across all categories
- Regularly monitor missing image report and source SKUs that require additional imaging, as required
- Review pricing, markdowns, transfers and inventory lifecycles on a regular basis
- Work with Merchandising and Accounting Teams on invoice reconciliation process
- Research competition in the Canadian market to be sure we are competitively priced on all products, identify market trends and develop a thorough understanding of the needs of the Canadian customer
- Serve as the Company’s lead point of contact for all vendor return programs, including troubleshooting items and communicating with the vendors
The experience and skill sets required to handle the job responsibilities of this position are as follows:
- Minimum of 5 years purchasing and buying experience in the retail industry, with golf experience a plus
- Some e-commerce retail experience is preferred
- Good organizational and time management skills
- Self-confidence to work with all levels of internal and external management
- Ability to communicate with vendors and quickly develop a trust-based relationship
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- attention to detail, initiative and multi-tasking capabilities
- Ability to work independently and also within a team environment
- Progressive thinking with an openness to new ideas and a focus on the customer experience
- Computer literate and competent in the use of Microsoft Office™ applications, including MS Outlook, MS Word, and MS Excel
