This position provides agronomical direction, including the strategic planning and oversight of maintenance activities for the City's six 18-hole golf facilities, to ensure optimal playing conditions for the golfing public, seven days per week, 364 days per year.

Overview
This position provides agronomical direction, including the strategic planning and oversight of maintenance activities for the City's six 18-hole golf facilities, to ensure optimal playing conditions for the golfing public, seven days per week, 364 days per year. This is accomplished by strategic use of annual budget guidelines, equipment maintenance and replacement, the use of pesticides and fertilizer in accordance with the state and federal regulations. Position oversees fleet and equipment maintenance operations, irrigation repair work and system expansions necessary for all six courses. Manages and oversees five direct reports, Senior Green Superintendent and Green Superintendents.
Essential functions
1 Provide optimum playing conditions on all (6 courses) 18-hole golf courses for the public.
2 Maintain excellent turf conditions to meet revenue budget guidelines.
3 Train, motivate, evaluate and manage maintenance staff to perform golf course maintenance and renovation duties.
4 Establishes short-, mid- and long-term goals and objectives for maintenance staff; develops and approves schedules, priorities, and standards for achieving goals and responsible for evaluation activities.
5 Provides technical expertise to all City golf course Green Superintendents.
6 Manage irrigation tech activities to include but not limited to: conducting of irrigation system audits, irrigation installation, repairs and maintenance.
7 Plan, implement and manage golf course conservations programs to include but not limited to: water conservation, energy conservation, chemical reduction, Integrated Pest Management programs,
8 Evaluate and implement special projects, outside cultural practices to improve playability and enhancement of golf course property.
9 Insure completion of planned work in a timely manner.
10 Manage and schedule computerized automated irrigation cycles to ensure adequate moisture levels in soil to provide optimum plant growth. Make repairs and conduct training as needed.
11 Attend staff meetings, public meetings and budget meetings related to golf operations and continuing education classes required for licenses/certifications.
12 Ensure quality of work finished daily; the inspection and evaluation of completed work by subordinate staff.
13 Work with contractors, vendors, consultants, plumbers, electricians and other trades professionals on work performed on golf course property.
14 Coordinate planned work with the golf professional staff and the public to ensure interruption of play is minimized.
15 Complete required storm water reports and compliance with the Office of Environmental Quality.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
1 Knowledge of USGA professional standards and rules.
2 Project management skills.
3 Budget management and general accounting and purchasing skills.
4 Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
5 Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
6 Requires valid Pesticide Applicator's license.
7 Requires Texas Class C driver's license.
8 Requires a Certified Professional Turfgrass.
9 Manager's certification through the Texas Turfgrass.
10 Association or similar certification from another state organization.
11 Requires working a varied work schedule for a 7 days/week, 364 day/year golf course operation.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Turfgrass Science/Management or other Nature Science related field.
Experience
Five (5) years of experience in turfgrass management, equipment operation, irrigation systems, and pest and disease management.
Five (5) years of supervisory experience is required - this experience may be included in the required experience listed above.
Other Requirements
Exposed to all weather conditions.
Requires walking, stooping, bending, standing, and lifting for long periods of the day.
Subject to working on weekends, holidays, and evenings.
Salary Range
$81,127.23 - $101,409.04
The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.
