About Mattoon Golf & Country Club: Established in 1920, The picturesque Mattoon Golf & Country Club offers five sets of tees on its 18-hole tree-lined golf course with full pro-shop and clubhouse facilities. The Club provides a wide variety of amenities for golfers, including putting & chipping greens, a practice bunker, and a practice facility.

The golf course has experienced great improvements over the last several years, an emphasis on maintaining equipment, bolstering the irrigation system, and attention to detail ensures the membership exceptional playing conditions year round. Facility also includes on-course restrooms with coded entry, and a new fleet of 48 golf carts arrived on the property in November of 2022.

Club members are provided with a full calendar of social and golf events, pool activities, and tennis. This makes it possible for everyone to enjoy an active lifestyle in a family-friendly and social environment, proven by the tremendous growth in family memberships since 2016, which now includes close to 500 family memberships giving club access to nearly 1200 individuals.

The Club has undoubtedly had a rebirth throughout the last five years. We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Golf Course Superintendent to join our team and continue the ongoing success and maintenance of the Mattoon Golf & Country Club.

Responsibilities:

Course Maintenance:
  • Oversee all aspects of golf course and practice facility maintenance, including but not limited to mowing, clubhouse grounds and landscaping, fertilization, pest control, bunker upkeep, top-dressing, aerification of greens & fairways, and any other task or skill required to maintain healthy and top notch playing conditions.
  • Develop and maintain drainage, irrigation, pumping and water systems.
  • Oversees the construction and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by grounds staff or outside contractors.
  • Oversee tree removal & clean-up, including stump grinding.
  • Plans all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve the Club’s maintenance standards and long-range goals.
Staff Management:
  • Lead and supervise a team of groundskeepers and maintenance staff.
  • Interview, hire, train, supervise and when necessary, terminate employees
  • Oversee scheduling of personnel
  • In charge of monitoring staff hours and compiling bi-weekly payroll reports to General Manager
Budget Management:
  • Assist in development and management of annual budget for the golf course maintenance department.
  • Review and approve all expenditures and exercise cost control measures to keep, as nearly as possible, operating and capital expenditures within approved budgets.
  • Working directly with outside contractors to obtain quotes / bids for projects
Equipment Oversight:
  • Ensure maintenance of all appropriate quality and cleanliness standards including, equipment repair areas, equipment storage facilities, chemical and fertilizer storage facilities, washing areas, restrooms, etc.
  • Manage the maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment and machinery, with assistance of staff.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely acquisition of necessary equipment and supplies.
Communication:
  • Collaborate with the General Manager and other department heads to coordinate golf course activities with overall club operations.
  • Communicate effectively with club members regarding course conditions and maintenance schedules.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred Bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in golf course maintenance, with 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Must have current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
  • Requires knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation systems, and pest control.
  • Regularly participate in continuing education.
  • Experience with budget management and financial oversight.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with environmental best practices in golf course management.
  • Required high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
  • Positive attitude, professional manner & appearance in all situations.
Compensation will be determined based on candidates qualifications and prior work experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $65,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
