Wildwood Country Club, in Louisville Kentucky, is a 73-year-old private member owned golf and country club. It has a very active golf membership with full social amenities. The golf course is a parkland style, with zoysia fairways, 6,500 yard, par 72 layout that requires accuracy and strategic planning over pure strength. It entails unique challenges for the potential Superintendent. The greens developed in its early years are of 3 types: Clay; Sand; and Push-up and require knowledge and planning to ensure the greens health. It also has a mature forest that must be managed with a strategic long-term plan of harvesting and replanting. Therefore, a potential Superintendent must have the knowledge, experience and organization skills to manage the diverse ecosystem. This role requires a blend of strong understanding and scientific knowledge in turf management and environmental science with strong leadership and communication skills. The superintendent ensures all aspects of the grounds, including turf, irrigation, forest management and landscaping, to maintain high standards, providing exceptional playing conditions. Responsibilities · Oversee the day-to-day maintenance of the golf course. Including but not limited to the development and implement all fertilization, pest control, and disease management programs for turf, trees, and landscape areas. · Manage the maintenance, repair, scheduling and operation of all irrigation systems to ensure efficient water distribution and conservation. · Supervise the training, scheduling, and daily assignments of the grounds crew to perform maintenance with minimal disruption to play.Ensure safety standards and regulations are adhered to. · Oversee the upkeep and repair of all maintenance equipment and work with the General Manager and the Board of Directors in the procurement of new assets as needed. · Needs a hands-on attitude · Plan and execute course improvement projects, including the renovation of greens, bunkers, and teeing grounds. Ensuring that all course maintenance operations adhere to local, state, and federal environmental regulations. · Work with the General Manager and the Grounds Committee in the development and management of the golf course maintenance budget. · Communicate with members and guests to ensure customer satisfaction. · Stay current with industry trends and advances in golf course maintenance. Qualifications – Education & Experience: · Preferred bachelor’s degree in majors of agronomy, horticulture, turfgrass science, or a related field. · However, extensive on-the-job experience, coupled with targeted education and certifications and licenses, will also qualify a potential candidate. · 5-10 years of experience working as a Superintendent or as primary assistant superintendent, with a employment record demonstrating career progression, is a must. · The following Certifications, Licenses and Skills, while not mandatory, enhance the potential candidate’s qualification. The following are to be consideration: · Certified Golf Course Superintendent (CGCS), offered by the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) · Spray Tech License · Integrated Pest Management · Soil and Plant Tissue Analysis · Water Resource Management · Turfgrass Stress Management · Crew Leadership and Development · Agronomic Financial Planning Direct Reporting – The Superintendent’s supervisor for all day-to-day activities, financial planning and implementation is the General Manager. The Superintendent will also be responsible to work with and report to the Grounds Committee and the Board of Directors. Compensation and Benefits · Base Annual Salary Range $75,000 to $105,000 (depending upon experience and qualifications) · Potential Vehicular and Cell Phone Monthly stipends · Professional Development – reimbursement for dues to professional organizations and educational opportunities Non-Financial Compensation · Club Privileges - Full Club membership privileges during active employment access to the Golf, Dining, Pool and Fitness Club facilities. · Spousal or partner access to Club facilities under the same terms. · Flexible scheduling when business needs allows in the off-season · After 3 months of acceptable service, eligible for medical, dental and vision coverage for the employee and family · After 6 months of acceptable service, 5 days annual leave and 3 personal days, which do not roll over. With continued yearly employment additional annual leave accrues
