Golf Course Superintendent Job Overview We are seeking an experienced and motivated Golf Course Superintendent to lead the daily maintenance and agronomic operations of our golf course facility in Puerto Rico . The ideal candidate will have strong experience in golf course turf management, particularly Bermuda grass , and a proven ability to lead maintenance teams, develop comprehensive maintenance programs, manage irrigation systems, oversee equipment and operations, and maintain exceptional playing conditions. This is a hands-on leadership position for an individual who is organized, proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about delivering high-quality golf course conditions. Candidates must be willing to relocate to Puerto Rico. Responsibilities Lead and oversee all daily golf course maintenance operations, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, landscaping, irrigation, and practice areas. Develop and implement daily, weekly, seasonal, and annual maintenance plans . Manage Bermuda grass turf through proper mowing, fertilization, aerification, topdressing, pest and disease management, and other agronomic practices. Develop and manage fertilizer, chemical, and turf-care programs based on course conditions, weather, and agronomic needs. Oversee the operation, maintenance, and scheduling of the golf course irrigation system. Monitor water usage and implement efficient irrigation and water-management practices. Supervise, train, schedule, and motivate golf course maintenance staff. Assign daily tasks and establish clear standards for quality, productivity, and safety. Oversee the proper operation and preventive maintenance of golf course equipment and machinery. Coordinate with equipment mechanics and vendors regarding repairs, maintenance, parts, and equipment needs. Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, chemical and fertilizer applications, equipment repairs, inventory, labor, and other operational information. Assist with maintenance budgeting, purchasing, inventory management, and cost control. Inspect the course regularly and identify opportunities for improvement, repair, and renovation. Coordinate with contractors and vendors on irrigation, drainage, landscaping, construction, and other golf course projects. Ensure compliance with applicable safety, environmental, and chemical-handling regulations. Coordinate maintenance activities around tournaments, member events, and other club activities. Respond effectively to weather events, irrigation issues, equipment breakdowns, turf problems, and other operational challenges. Maintain a safe, clean, organized, and professional maintenance facility. Qualifications Previous experience as a Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or similar senior golf course maintenance position . Strong knowledge and hands-on experience managing Bermuda grass . Experience developing and implementing golf course maintenance and agronomic programs. Strong knowledge of turfgrass fertility, irrigation, pest and disease management, chemical applications, aerification, topdressing, and mowing practices. Proven experience supervising and leading a golf course maintenance team. Experience operating and managing golf course maintenance equipment and machinery. Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Experience with maintenance budgets, purchasing, inventory, and cost control preferred. Strong communication and leadership skills. Knowledge of safety and environmental regulations related to golf course maintenance. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, email, and other standard computer applications . Ability to learn and utilize maintenance, irrigation, weather, chemical management, and other golf course technology and software. Ability to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and extended hours when required by course conditions or special events. Must be willing to relocate to Puerto Rico. Preferred Qualifications Degree or formal education in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Golf Course Management, or a related field. GCSAA membership or similar professional association. Certified Golf Course Superintendent or equivalent certification. Experience at a private club, resort, or high-end golf facility. Experience managing a 36-hole golf facility . Experience working in a tropical or warm-weather environment. Valid pesticide applicator certification or equivalent.
