Fort Mitchell Country Club is seeking an experienced, motivated, and hands-on Golf Course Superintendent to lead all golf course maintenance and agronomic operations at our historic 9-hole private country club.

This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join FMCC at a transformational time. Our golf course has recently undergone a major full-course renovation, including the installation of a brand-new irrigation system, extensive full-course drainage improvements, corridor cart path drainage infrastructure, complete cart path resurfacing, and the installation of new Zoysia fairways and tees. With these major capital improvements now complete, we are focused on elevating course conditions and maximizing the long-term success of these investments.

The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for all golf course operations and maintenance, including turfgrass and plant material programs, property and asset management, personnel leadership, budgeting and forecasting, irrigation management, pesticide applications and compliance, and member relations. This role is critical in maintaining exceptional playing conditions while fostering a positive, engaged, and high-performing team culture built on communication, accountability, and respect.

Basic Functions
  • Responsible for all phases of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, including cost control and personnel management
  • Works closely with the General Manager, Head Golf Professional, and Grounds Chairperson on all matters related to course maintenance and improvements
  • Directs and participates in construction, maintenance, and improvement of the golf course and Club grounds
  • Develops and implements landscape and property enhancement plans
  • Administers and enforces Club policies, procedures, and safety standards for grounds staff
  • Supports member education, communication, and orientation related to course projects and conditions
  • Operates the department in a fiscally responsible and professional manner
  • Must be self-motivated, capable of independent decision-making, and a proactive problem solver
Primary Duties
  • Oversee the care and maintenance of turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, and trees throughout Club property
  • Direct and assist staff with planting, pruning, trimming, spraying, and replacement of vegetation
  • Maintain aesthetically pleasing and well-managed landscape areas, especially high-visibility and high-stress areas
  • Develop annual agronomic and landscaping plans for golf course and grounds improvements
  • Recruit, train, supervise, motivate, and retain grounds staff
  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and manage accountability and disciplinary actions when necessary
  • Provide technical, operational, and safety training to ensure compliance with OSHA and all applicable regulations
  • Supervise safe operation and maintenance of all equipment and assist with capital equipment planning and budgeting
  • Oversee chemical application programs, including fertilizers and pesticides, and maintain all required records
  • Manage all maintenance expenses, including payroll, chemicals, fertilizers, supplies, and equipment
  • Develop annual operating budgets and long-term capital improvement plans
  • Maintain accurate records and complete required reporting
  • Order supplies, parts, and equipment as needed
  • Schedule maintenance practices around member play and golf events to minimize disruption
  • Coordinate snow removal and winter maintenance when necessary
Knowledge & Skills Required
  • Strong knowledge of golf course maintenance, including greens, fairways, tees, and rough management
  • Knowledge of equipment, tools, and machinery used in golf course construction and maintenance
  • Strong leadership, communication, and staff development skills
  • Ability to recruit, train, motivate, and evaluate employees
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships with members, guests, and staff
  • Knowledge of safe handling, mixing, and application of fertilizers and pesticides
  • Understanding of golf course playability, strategy, and golfer expectations
  • Ability to anticipate labor, equipment, and material needs
  • Knowledge of irrigation layout, drainage systems, and golf course construction methods
Minimum Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of experience as a Golf Course Superintendent or First Assistant Superintendent
  • 2-year degree or certificate in Turf Management or related field (Agronomy, Horticulture, Plant Science, Soil Science, etc.) preferred
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office, budgeting, and reporting systems
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Pesticide Applicator License
  • GCSAA certification preferred
