The Superintendent will lead all golf course maintenance activities while fostering a respectful, engaged, and safety-focused work environment. This role requires strong leadership, sound financial and operational judgment, and a commitment to delivering exceptional course conditions for members, guests, and tournaments in accordance with Kaneff Golf standards.
Key Responsibilities Golf Course & Agronomic Operations
Oversee all phases of golf course maintenance and agronomic programs, including greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, landscaped areas, and wetlands
Direct and participate in the construction, renovation, and ongoing upkeep of course grounds
Develop and execute seasonal turf management plans, including mowing, aerification, topdressing, fertilization, and pest and disease control
Manage irrigation systems and water usage, ensuring compliance with applicable water permits and environmental best practices
Schedule maintenance practices to maximize efficiency while minimizing disruption to member play and events
Recruit, supervise, train, and retain maintenance staff
Conduct performance evaluations and manage employee discipline where required
Lead daily team meetings and promote clear communication, accountability, and teamwork
Foster an inclusive and respectful workplace aligned with Kaneff Golf values
Enforce Kaneff Golf Health & Safety policies and ensure compliance with provincial and federal regulations
Provide technical, operational, and safety training to all maintenance staff
Oversee safe operation and maintenance of all mechanical and power equipment
Supervise and document pesticide and fertilizer applications in compliance with Integrated Pest Management (IPM) requirements and applicable legislation
Ensure compliance with health and safety assessments, notices, and preventative maintenance programs
Assist in developing and managing annual operating budgets and capital improvement plans
Monitor and control maintenance-related expenses, including payroll, supplies, chemicals, fertilizers, and equipment
Maintain accurate purchasing and record-keeping processes, including purchase orders
Assess equipment needs and provide recommendations for repair, replacement, or capital investment
Work closely with Kaneff Golf leadership on maintenance planning, budgets, and operational priorities
Coordinate with external contractors for specialized projects as required
Support course setup and planning around tournaments and special events
Coordinate snow removal and winter maintenance activities as required
Perform additional assignments and responsibilities as required by the Company
Degree or diploma in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or a related field
Valid Ontario Landscape Exterminator Licence
IPM Agent designation, or ability to obtain within 120 days of employment
Valid driver’s license
Proven experience in golf course management and agronomic best practices
Strong leadership, personnel management, and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrated experience with irrigation systems, including troubleshooting and repair
Proficient computer skills
Experience recruiting, supervising, and motivating staff
Base salary: $70,000 – $80,000 annually
