Job Description: Overview This position is located at the U.S. Naval Station, Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department, Recreation Services Division, Rota, Spain. The incumbent supervises the operation and maintenance of the 18-hole golf course with 14 employees and provides managerial direction for a year-round golf operation including a driving range, putting green and Pro Shop. Responsibilities * Supervises, schedules, trains, disciplines and evaluates employees; interviews new hires, certifies time cards, and recommends action on leave requests. * Ensures facilities are adequately staffed for seven days per week, twelve to fourteen hours per day; supervises the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for the efficient operation and administration of the Golf Course and areas delegated to the Golf Course Superintendent. * Manages assigned areas including the Golf Course and maintenance facilities, Pro Shop, driving range, cart storage sheds, retail storage room and lounge; ensures proper maintenance and security of areas and maintains a clean and presentable facility. * Purchases, displays, promotes and controls resale of golf merchandise; prepares purchase requests and forwards receiving documents to accounting; oversees semiannual resale inventory and investigates excessive overages/shortages; trains staff in fitting or demonstration of golf merchandise (e.g., clubs, bags, shoes, gloves). * Develops an annual budget for responsible areas, considering salaries, supplies, repairs, replacement and other expenses; ensures self-sufficiency with income from fees, rentals and sales. * Maintains records (e.g., green fees, electric cart rentals, club repairs, lessons, tournaments) and develops, promotes, organizes and coordinates golf tournaments and leagues; assists men’s and women’s clubs with scheduling and conduct of events; maintains positive relations with patrons to encourage golf patronage. * Enforces NAVSTA rules and regulations governing use of the golf course; ensures access is limited to authorized personnel and their guests. * Informs the MWR Recreation Director of requirements and conditions of assigned areas and anticipates potential problems. Qualifications Knowledge Required The incumbent must have education, experience and training demonstrating capability to manage and possess extensive knowledge of the game of golf, rules of play, and knowledge of golf equipment and apparel. Certification by the Professional Golf Association is required. Must be personable and able to communicate with the eligible golfing public. Requirements Conditions of employment Work is primarily performed in a well-lit, ventilated environment; safety precautions are required. Additional information Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements; selection may be tentative pending completion of these requirements. Applicants may be required to submit proof of education, participate in medical screening, drug testing, etc. All selections are contingent upon satisfactory employment reference checks. Employment is subject to successful National Agency Background Check. Occupants must maintain privacy of official information and data and demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct. Selected individuals recruited from the United States or on a Transportation Agreement may be entitled to transportation and moving costs for themselves and family members. Household goods may be shipped and a Living Quarters Allowance (LQA) is paid to cover monthly housing and utility costs.
