GOLF PROFESSIONAL

Taberna Golf & Country Club

New Bern, North Carolina

ABOUT TABERNA

Taberna Golf & Country Club is entering an exciting new chapter under new ownership. Located in New Bern, North Carolina, Taberna features an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Senior Nicklaus Designer Jim Lipe, with tree-lined fairways, natural beauty, strategic water features, and a welcoming club community.

The club is investing in a thoughtful, phased elevation of the member experience—beginning with the clubhouse and expanding across golf, dining, programming, and the course. We are seeking a forward-thinking Golf Professional who can honor the traditions of the game while helping build a more engaging, service-driven, and financially sustainable golf program.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Golf Professional will help lead Taberna’s golf operation, instructional programming, tournaments, member engagement, and daily golf experience.

The successful candidate will be a visible, approachable leader who enjoys developing relationships with members, welcoming prospective members and public golfers, teaching players of varying skill levels, and creating programs that strengthen participation and club loyalty.

This role requires both golf expertise and business judgment. The Golf Professional will work collaboratively with ownership, the General Manager, golf operations staff, and the golf-course team to recommend programs, establish measurable goals, and implement club-approved initiatives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

MEMBER AND GUEST EXPERIENCE

• Create a warm, organized, and professional golf experience from arrival through completion of play

• Build strong relationships with members and remain visible and accessible throughout the club

• Welcome prospective members and public golfers in a manner that reflects Taberna’s membership goals

• Address golf-related questions and concerns promptly, professionally, and consistently

• Promote proper golf etiquette, pace of play, course care, and respect for club policies

• Work with clubhouse leadership to connect golf programming with dining, social events, and the broader member experience

INSTRUCTION AND PLAYER DEVELOPMENT

• Develop and personally deliver high-quality private lessons, clinics, golf schools, and group instruction

• Create programming for beginners, experienced players, women, men, couples, juniors, and families

• Establish a clear instructional calendar with participation and revenue goals

• Develop introductory experiences that help prospective and returning golfers become comfortable at the club

• Evaluate each program based on participation, member feedback, revenue, and long-term value

• Recommend refinements based on measurable results and professional expertise

TOURNAMENTS AND PROGRAMMING

• Plan and execute member tournaments, leagues, outings, couples’ golf, twilight golf, junior programming, and signature events

• Develop fresh concepts that increase participation without losing the traditions members value

• Coordinate formats, pairings, registration, scoring, rules, communication, prizes, and day-of execution

• Work with the culinary and events teams to create cohesive golf-and-hospitality experiences

• Support outside outings and events that introduce qualified prospective members to Taberna

• Maintain a well-organized annual golf calendar and communicate details sufficiently in advance

GOLF OPERATIONS

• Support or oversee tee-sheet management, starting procedures, pace-of-play practices, cart operations, range operations, and daily play

• Help ensure GolfNow and other approved golf technologies are used effectively and accurately

• Monitor member access and public tee-time availability in accordance with club strategy

• Help improve golfer communication, including weather notices, event reminders, openings, cancellations, and wait-list opportunities

• Maintain accurate golf records, tournament information, participation data, and operational reports

• Collaborate with the golf-course team regarding course conditions, closures, maintenance priorities, and golfer communication

• Help maintain an organized, attractive, and service-oriented golf shop and staging area

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT AND MEMBERSHIP GROWTH

• Actively support the recruitment, onboarding, and retention of Full Golf members

• Participate in prospective-member tours, golf introductions, and membership events when appropriate

• Recommend golf programs with clear budgets, implementation plans, participation goals, and anticipated revenue

• Track the performance of clinics, schools, tournaments, outings, and membership-development efforts

• Identify responsible opportunities to grow golf revenue while protecting member access and experience

• Build appropriate relationships within the New Bern golf community to strengthen Taberna’s visibility and reputation

• Provide ownership and club leadership with clear, timely reporting on results and recommended next steps

LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION

• Help recruit, train, schedule, and mentor golf-operations team members as assigned

• Establish clear standards for professionalism, communication, appearance, and member service

• Work collaboratively within approved club strategy, budgets, and operating policies

• Present recommendations with supporting rationale and remain accountable for agreed-upon results

• Communicate proactively with ownership, club leadership, golf staff, and the course-maintenance team

• Model integrity, sound judgment, consistency, and respect in every interaction

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS

• PGA membership, PGA Associate status, or comparable professional golf credentials strongly preferred

• Demonstrated experience in private-club, resort, or high-quality public golf operations

• Proven ability to teach players across different ages and skill levels

• Experience developing clinics, golf schools, leagues, tournaments, and player-development programs

• Understanding of tee-sheet management, golf technology, tournament administration, merchandising, and golf-shop operations

• Experience supporting membership recruitment and retention preferred

• Strong business judgment with an ability to build programs around measurable goals

• Excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal skills

• A visible, personable leadership style and genuine enthusiasm for member engagement

• Ability to balance professional recommendations with collaborative, club-approved implementation

• Availability based on the demands of the golf calendar, including early mornings, weekends, holidays, tournaments, and special events
