POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position: Golf Operations Assistant

Job Type: Full Time

Reports To: Golf Professional and/or Assistant Golf Professional

Primary Objective: Assist the Golf Professional and Assistant Golf Professional in the daily operations of the Golf Operations Department and deliver exceptional guest satisfaction.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Golf Professional and Assistant Golf Professional in the daily operations of the Golf Operations Department (Pro Shop, Locker Rooms, Outside Guest Services and Cart facilities) and golf operations to include but not limited to: tournaments, rules, club play events, tee sheet activity, merchandise inventory, range operations, player service operations, cart fleet, etc., to consistently deliver products and services that adhere to the standards of Waikele Country Club; fill in for the Assistant Golf Professional in times of absence and provide accountability.
  • Provide support and assistance to other staff members within the Golf Operations Department as needed.
  • Responsible for ensuring excellent guest experience; assist with booking tee times, greeting customers, and answering telephones; coordinate guest special orders, access to partner golf courses, assist club groups with tournament access, etc.; manage guest requests, and be accountable for complaints; resolve issues timely and provide follow-up action.
  • Assist with cashier responsibilities, inclusive of monetary and card transactions.
  • Assist in the daily coordination of golf course play (i.e., starting and monitoring pace of play) and practice range operations; utilize the POS/reservation system.
  • Assist with opening and closing the Pro Shop, Cart facilities, and overall golf course.
  • Communicate, collaborate, and work in partnership with other departments.
  • Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment.
  • Assist with the set-up, execution, and breakdown of course programs and tournament operations as needed.
  • Assist with the coordination, development and management of innovative tournament programs, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments.
  • Responsible to ensure that all rules and regulations of golf course are being followed to create a safe and friendly environment.
  • Assist with checking, cleaning, and sanitizing areas of the Pro Shop, clubhouse, and surrounding grounds.
  • Assist with Marshal and Outside Guest Services (OGS) basic functions as needed.
  • Assist with golf bags and merchandise, and the handling of golf carts in the cart barn and staging area.
  • Assist in facilitating emergency action procedures for the clubhouse and golf course in times of severe weather or other times of emergency.
  • Be well versed in industry standards and trends.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment by completing assignments, maintaining consistent work practices, adapting to changing circumstances and respecting diversity.
  • Must be able to display professionalism at all times in work areas.
  • Must be able to work a variety of shifts including early morning, weekends, midday, and evening shifts, and holidays.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school degree or GED Certification.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of progressive work experience in the golf industry.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated work experience in cash and credit handling and transactions.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of demonstrated work experience in a customer-facing position.
  • Must possess interpersonal skills and experience in working with diverse people.
  • Must be able to follow directions, multi-task and handle multiple priorities simultaneously within a fast-paced setting.
  • Display excellent verbal and written communication skills, active listening skills, and personal skills, in effective interactions with guests, co-workers, supervisors, and the general public.
  • Ability to respond to customer requests knowledgeably and with courtesy.
  • Ability to work as a team.
  • Ability to problem solve and adapt to various situations.
  • Must be able to perform independently and responsibly, while maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Self-motivated and customer oriented.
  • Understanding of the golf industry and current trends.
  • Basic knowledge of various computer software programs, to include but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Must be able to understand, speak, read and write in English.
  • Basic mathematical skills for computation and calculation.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule including mornings, days, evenings, weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • Possession of valid Hawaii Driver’s License.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and/or work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Physical Demands:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:
  • Walk and/or stand for prolonged periods of time; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, bend, twist, reach, and grasp; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.; push/pull/move objects; and lift overhead.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work in air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned environments.
  • Must be able to withstand working in humid and outdoor temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Possess fundamental knowledge of the game of golf, rules of golf and golf operations.
  • Previous sales and/or marketing work experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in golf reservations systems.
  • Ability to operate Diving Range Picker, golf cart, utility cart, walkie-talkie radio and other related equipment.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Training Certification.
  • Bilingual in Japanese or Korean language.
Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $13.00 per hour
