Overview
The Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and preventative servicing of all golf course equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, golf carts, irrigation equipment, and small engine machinery. The Golf Course Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and preventative servicing of all golf course equipment, including mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, golf carts, irrigation equipment, and small engine machinery. The mechanic works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure equipment is safe, reliable, and available for daily course operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain all golf course maintenance equipment.
- Perform preventative maintenance according to manufacturer recommendations.
- Service gasoline, diesel, hydraulic, and electric-powered equipment.
- Maintain golf carts, utility vehicles, tractors, mowers, chainsaws, blowers, and other course equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and engine-related problems.
- Sharpen, grind, adjust, and replace cutting units and reels on mowing equipment.
- Maintain accurate service and repair records.
- Monitor equipment inventory and recommend parts and supplies for purchase.
- Ensure compliance with safety procedures and environmental regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe maintenance facility.
- Assist with emergency repairs and equipment breakdowns as needed.
- Coordinate with vendors and equipment manufacturers regarding repairs and warranty claims.
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical training preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of mechanical repair experience.
- Experience with turf equipment, diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems preferred.
- Ability to diagnose and repair a wide variety of equipment.
- Welding and fabrication experience is desirable.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Ability to operate golf course maintenance equipment safely.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs.
- Understanding of hydraulic, electrical, and fuel systems.
- Ability to read technical manuals and repair schematics.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in various weather conditions.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent.
- $20 - $25 per hour (Compensation is based on experience, certifications, and qualifications).
