The Virginia Golf Club, located in Brisbane's inner Northern suburbs is looking for an experienced Mechanic to provide maintenance, routine servicing and repairs for the Club’s fleet of course equipment. There will also be the opportunity to participate in ‘on course’ routine maintenance work with our close-knit team of Ground staff.
Responsibilities
The Golf Course Mechanic reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance and servicing program for the Clubs course equipment (primarily Toro supplied equipment).
This program includes:
• Oversee routine machine operating standards with pre-start checks on all machines along with daily responsibilities in ensuring machines are ready for use in such things as checking mower blade heights and routine blade sharpening;
• Ensuring all equipment is serviced in a timely manner and in accordance with equipment manufacturers specifications;
• Being proactive in troubleshooting and solving breakdowns and issues;
• Keeping records of equipment service history;
• Placing orders for materials required to carry out repairs and servicing;
• Provide regular communication any issues relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent;
• Maintain high levels of operating safety and being responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building.


Additional Information
• 38-hour week (short day Friday) but open to flexible part time hours
• Competitive salary & conditions (can be either salaried or award based)
• 4 weeks annual leave
• Training can be provided for applicants with mechanical experience but no previous exposure to golf course equipment;
• 4.30 am start in Summer months / 5.30 am winter months, early finish & short-day Fridays;
• Some weekend work maybe required;
• Close knit experienced & friendly team

Job requirements
• Ideally you will be a qualified mechanic with experience in maintaining both petrol & diesel operating equipment but applicants not qualified with previous relevant mechanic experience are also be welcome to apply.
• Sound understanding of diesel and petrol engine maintenance trouble shooting and repair.
• Preferred previous experience in similar role particularly relating to equipment service regimes;
• Some basic understanding of auto electrics and welding skills would be a big plus but not essential.
• Possess a high attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions associated with mechanical environments;
• Be physically capable to lift & carry.
• Be prepared to carry out jobs on the golf course as required, these would include work activities such as fairway & rough mowing, brush cutting, raking bunkers etc.;
• Most importantly, you will have a good sense of humour and a team player to compliment the spirit and contribution our ground staff make to our club.
