Tehachapi Unified School District has a vacancy for the position of JV Boys Golf Head Coach at Tehachapi High School.

The following requirements must be met post-offer pre-employment:
  • NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching certificate – link to course will be provided by district once hired
  • NFHS Concussion in Sports - link to course will be provided by district once hired
  • NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest - link to course will be provided by district once hired
  • NFHS Heat Illness Prevention - link to course will be provided by district once hired
  • First Aid & CPR/AED certificate – district will provide training if not currently certified
  • Coaches Badge – which allows you to be on the field/court

Job Description

Coach

DEFINITION

The coach is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program. The Coach will adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and directives of the Governing Board set forth in Board policies and administrative regulations. The Coach is to be an exemplary role model for the athletes, school, community, and District. The Coach shall recognize that the purpose of athletics is to promote the physical, mental, moral, and emotional well-being of the individual athlete.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES – Not all inclusive

 Responsible for the supervision and development of the program.

 Monitor assignment and duties of assistant and lower level coaches.

 Responsible for the general upkeep, inventory, and protection of equipment and facilities.

 Maintain ongoing communication with the Athletic Director regarding any developments in the program, including concerns and complaints.

 Directs the training conditioning, and performance of the athletic team.

 Responsible for submissions of request to purchase equipment, supplies and uniforms as needed, to the Athletic Director.

 Oversee the safety conditions of the facility or area in which the assigned sport is conducted.

 Report unsafe conditions to the Athletic Director and Facilities Director.

 Assist in the scheduling of tryouts, games, transportation, and use of facilities for events.

 Actively participates in athletic department fund raising and public relation events.

 Assess player’s skills, monitors athletic performance during competition and practice.

 Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete’s injury.

 Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, etc.

 Conduct pre-season parent meetings to review scholastic eligibility requirements, athletic code of conduct, team rules, injury prevention, and inherent risks of the sport.

 Monitor the scholastic eligibility and conduct of athletes.

 Complete, process, and maintain records forms related to physical and scholastic eligibility, parent release, insurance, injuries and accidents.

 Comply with time restraints for practice and competition schedules, including holidays, weekends, and off-season schedules.

 Responsible for safety and security of the team before, during, and after program events.

 Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:

 Athletic policies, procedures, rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport, and the standards of ethical conduct.

 Head and neck injuries and assessment.

 Cause, prevention, and treatment of muscle cramps.

 Blood borne pathogens in sports.

 Recognition, management and prevention of eating disorders.

 Performance-enhancing dietary supplements

 Strength and conditioning.

 Identification and prevention of MRSA (methicillin-resistant staph aureus)

 Child or adolescent psychology as it relates to sports participation as evidenced by one or more of the following:

o Completion of college-level course in child psychology; or

o Completion of a seminar or workshop on human growth and development of youth: or

o Prior active involvement with youth in a school or community sports program.

Ability to:

 Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.

 Maintain order and respect between athletes and their competitors, officials, referees, and spectators.

Experience: 2-years prior job experience, paid or volunteer, with students in an organized athletic program required.

Licenses, Certifications, and/or Testing Required

 California Driver’s License and proof of insurance.

 Must clear a Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check.

 First Aid Card (CPR and AED trained)

 NFHS Certification: Fundamentals of Coaching

 NFHS Certification: Concussion in Sports

 NFHS Certification: Sudden Cardiac Arrest

 NFHS Certification: Heat Illness Prevention

Physical Abilities:

 Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching, and reaching

 Reaching overhead – above the shoulders and horizontally

 Occasional carrying, pushing, pulling or lifting up to 50 pounds

 Sitting, standing, and /or walking for extending periods

 Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person, on the telephone, and through email.

 Visual ability to read, prepare/process documents, and to monitor various service & personnel.

 Mobility to travel to various school sites and workshops.
