The Retail Assistant supports the daily operations of the Golf Shop and plays an integral role in delivering an exceptional retail experience to the membership and their guests. This position is responsible for merchandise presentation, inventory support, special order coordination, transaction processing, and maintaining the overall organization and appearance of the shop in alignment with Sherwood Country Club standards.
The Retail Assistant works closely with the Director of Retail and Golf Professional Staff to ensure a seamless, professional, and member-focused retail environment.

The Retail Assistant supports the daily operations of the Golf Shop and plays an integral role in delivering an exceptional retail experience to the membership and their guests. This position is responsible for merchandise presentation, inventory support, special order coordination, transaction processing, and maintaining the overall organization and appearance of the shop in alignment with Sherwood Country Club standards.
The Retail Assistant works closely with the Director of Retail and Golf Professional Staff to ensure a seamless, professional, and member-focused retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain an attractive, organized, and well-stocked Golf Shop environment that reflects Sherwood’s standards of excellence.
- Merchandise product displays in a clean, visually compelling, and brand-appropriate manner to enhance the member shopping experience.
- Receive, unpack, tag, and properly display new inventory in a timely and accurate fashion.
- Maintain an organized and efficient back-of-house storage area.
- Assist in managing special orders, including vendor communication, order placement, invoice processing, member billing, and member follow-up regarding delivery status.
- Process assigned invoices accurately and promptly as directed by the Director of Retail.
- Monitor inventory levels and communicate replenishment needs to prevent overstocking or stockouts.
- Assist with quarterly physical inventory counts, including organization, counting, reconciliation, and reporting.
- Develop comprehensive product knowledge across all brands and categories to provide informed recommendations to members.
- Process cash and credit card transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain proficiency in Golf Genius POS, special-order systems, and Club Essentials inventory management.
- Answer telephones in a professional and courteous manner.
- Provide knowledgeable assistance regarding tournaments, club events, merchandise, and general club information.
- Support Golf Professional Staff as needed to ensure smooth daily operations.
Knowledge, Experience & Skills
Experience
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in a golf shop, retail sales, or hospitality/customer service environment preferred.
- Strong organizational skills with disciplined attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple responsibilities efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently when required.
- Working knowledge of POS systems, inventory software, and standard computer applications.
- Professional demeanor, positive attitude, and polished appearance.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
- Experience in visual merchandising and display design are preferred.
