Job Summary
This position assists Grounds Management in providing high quality golf courses and total guest satisfaction through proper maintenance of the course and operation of the required equipment and tools.

Supervision

This position has supervisory responsibility.
Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities listed below are essential to the employee's position.
  • Maintains a preventative maintenance program on all equipment, purchases repair parts and replacement supplies. Places orders for parts/supplies as needed for equipment or service and tracks expenses and inventories for budget purposes.
  • Inspects, adjusts, diagnoses and repairs mechanical defects in many types of golf course maintenance equipment.
  • Performs mower grinding/sharpening, general overhaul of motors and reels, installs and adjusts braking systems.
  • May perform machining or welding work in making fittings used in repair of maintenance equipment.
  • Manages expenses in the maintenance of the equipment fleet relating to parts purchases, inventory levels, service work, fuel inventories and related items.
  • Ensures accurate records of preventative maintenance, repairs made, parts ordered are kept.
  • Maintains an up-to-date working knowledge of light and heavy construction and maintenance equipment and automotive apparatus for a golf course. Maintains skills in the use of a wide variety of equipment repair tools and in the making of various types of mechanical repairs.
  • Works independently and/or within a team on special and nonrecurring and ongoing projects
  • Knowledge of the theory, care and operation of internal combustion engines, hydraulic systems and mowing equipment maintenance such as grinding, sharpening and adjustment.
  • Diagnoses mechanical troubles and schedules appropriate preventative maintenance work.
  • Organizes and maintains a clean and safe maintenance area
  • Directs contracted projects to verify adherence to specifications. Consults with external resources, as needed.
  • Purchases equipment and parts within budgetary guidelines. Purchases must be authorized by Director of Agronomy prior to purchase.
  • Completes reports and paperwork, as required.
  • In coordination and consultation with Director of Agronomy and Human Resources, hires, trains, develops and appraises staff effectively and timely.
  • Performs all other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required

High School Degree/GED required. Specialized training in golf course equipment is required. Plus, minimum five years' experience as a supervisor or lead in a golf course equipment and/or mechanic related position.

Skills and Abilities
  • Strong communication skills (both oral and in-writing).
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to properly and safely operate golf course and landscape equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the repair and maintenance of golf course equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of the tools, supplies, materials needed for the repair and maintenance of golf course equipment.
  • Knowledge of welding equipment and the safe operation of the equipment as it pertains the golf course maintenance.
  • Ability to recognize, communicate and/or resolve maintenance and/or repair challenges.
  • Knowledge of golf course maintenance techniques and methods.
  • Ability to identify plant species common to the southwest region.
  • Knowledge of fertilizers and pesticides, and their application techniques and purpose.
  • Ability to work alone with limited supervision, follow instructions and be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing needs.
Computer Skills

Required:
  • Ability to use employee self-service and supervisor role on company's human resources/payroll database
  • Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Digital golf course maintenance software Toro MyTurf preferred; or ability to learn relatively quickly
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Required:
  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License, maintain automobile insurance coverage and have access to an automobile.
Other
Regular attendance is required. Additional hours including weekends may be required on a regular basis to fulfill duties of position. At times, individual must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with ability to handle and prioritize multiple, competing tasks and demands and to seek supervisory assistance as appropriate.
