This role oversees the agronomic and operational activities of the golf course, manages the maintenance staff, appropriate care of tools, equipment and machinery, and collaborates with the management/board team to deliver an exceptional golfing experience. Key Responsibilities :
- Course Maintenance :
- Develop and implement a comprehensive agronomic plan for turf management, including proper mowing, fertilization, irrigation, and pest control.
- Ensure the golf course, including greens, tees, fairways, and roughs, is maintained in optimal condition throughout the year.
- Conduct regular inspections of turf conditions and adjust turf care as necessary.
- Supply weekly reports to Board Chair of Golf and Grounds
- Staff Management :
- Recruit, train, and supervise maintenance staff, guiding them in best practices for golf course maintenance and safety protocols. Ultimate decisions on hiring rests with the Board of Directors.
- Schedule staff efficiently to ensure all areas of the golf course are maintained to a high standard.
- Conduct annual and regular performance reviews and provide ongoing training and development opportunities for staff.
- Budget Management :
- Coordinate with the Board Chair of Golf and Grounds to help develop and manage the golf course maintenance budget, ensuring all expenses are tracked and aligned with financial goals.
- Supply timely receipts, pursing vendor receipts, and turn in timely timecards for the staff
- Source and order necessary supplies and materials while ensuring cost-effective practices.
- Equipment Management :
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of all golf course equipment and machinery.
- Ensure that equipment is maintained in a safe and efficient manner to minimize downtime.
- Maintain a log/manual of standard and other work done on all equipment and work with the “board” to explain and show updated mechanical plan and updates
- Supply annual requests for equipment and any potential improvements
- Environmental Stewardship :
- Implement sustainable practices in all aspects of golf course maintenance, focusing on water conservation, chemical application, and habitat preservation.
- Stay updated on regulations related to environmental impacts of golf course operations.
- Obtain a Pesticide Applicator license and update the continuing education annually.
- Communication and Collaboration :
- Work closely with the Board Chair of Golf and Grounds and any other departments to coordinate course activities, events, and maintenance schedules.
- Respond to member and guest inquiries regarding course conditions and maintenance practices.
- Be responsible for sharing communications with the Board regarding any potential shut-down of the course for safety, weather, specialized work, or for any other reason where the course may have issues.
- Record Keeping and Reporting :
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, pesticide applications, and budget expenditures.
- Prepare reports for Board/Leadership regarding the condition of the golf course and recommendations for improvements. Qualifications :
- Preferred but not mandated:
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in golf course maintenance, we would prefer at least 1 year in a supervisory role, but not mandated.
- Extensive knowledge of turfgrass management, irrigation system operation, and equipment maintenance.
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks as required.
