GOLF - ASSISTANT GROUNDS SUPERVISOR
FULL TIME
The Kenosha County Golf Department is seeking a full time Assistant Grounds Supervisor. Reporting to the Grounds Supervisor, the Assistant Grounds Supervisor directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course for the 45-hole, 410-acre Brighton Dale Links facility, repairs motorized equipment and other mechanical equipment and performs related work as required. The Assistant Grounds Supervisor may serve in the Grounds Supervisor’s capacity during his/her absence. The Assistant Grounds Supervisor places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and the maintenance of the building.

WORK SCHEDULE
- Full time, year-round position.
- Normal summer work hours are Monday through Friday, 5:00 am to 1:00 pm, with one weekend day each week from 5:00 am to 9:00 am, with every 3rd weekend off.
- Normal winter hours are Monday through Friday, 6:00 am to 2:00 pm, and on-call for snow removal on evenings and weekends.
- Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees, and fairways; schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
- Assists in hiring, training, termination, supervision, and yearly evaluation of all seasonal grounds department staff.
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
- Serves an integral role in maintenance and operation of the irrigation system, which is comprised of over 1500 individual sprinklers and 40 satellite stations, with corresponding underground power and communication wire, and pressurized PVC pipe.
- Assists in the monitoring and daily recoding of water usage via irrigation pumps daily during the operating season.
- Assists in the application of fertilizers and chemicals in accordance with all state and federal guidelines, as well as supervision and execution of proper storage and disposal of all pesticide products and other hazardous waste.
- Assists in accurate record-keeping of all pesticide and fertilizer applications as needed in support of the Grounds Supervisor.
- Assists the Grounds Supervisor in the development of a comprehensive equipment maintenance program and communicate with equipment technicians daily to ensure the equipment fleet remains serviced and prepared for scheduled operations.
- Assist the Grounds Supervisor in the planning, bidding, and purchasing of fertilizers and chemicals that will best suit the needs of the facility.
- Assists in communication efforts with the Golf Shop staff and Golf Division Manager daily to inform on key issues related to golf course availability, playability, and key agronomic tasks. Also provides support as needed on maintenance and repair of golf cart fleet.
- Assists in wastewater treatment plant operations and repair.
- Assists as needed with tracking, monitoring, and reporting of fuel usage.
- Performs other work as required or assigned.
- Knowledge of maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; the planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
- Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions of the profession.
- Knowledge of and/or ability to play the game of golf and understand how job performance affects the playing conditions of the golf course.
- Ability to communicate effectively, schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; to prepare clear and concise reports; and to maintain effective employee and public relations.
- Ability to move heavy objects.
- Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Ability to promote inclusivity and effectively engage with a diverse workforce and consumer base.
- Ability to work respectfully in a diverse and inclusive environment.
- Skill in the use of a variety of equipment, repair tools, and the making of mechanical repair.
- 2-year degree in horticulture, turf management, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in golf course/landscape which includes 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Pesticide Applicator License and DNR Wastewater Operator Certification.
- Class A Commercial Driver’s License (can be obtained after hire).
