Position Overview
Primary Function:
This part-time (1020 hours) Golf Shop Assistant will assist the Golf Course Manager in the supervision of Golf Course operations. Provide customer service and support to all golf course activities.
This position receives general supervision from the Golf Course Manager. Comprehensive instructions are provided and the staff member uses judgment and experience to carry out assignments. The supervisor reviews completed assignments and finished products after completion.
Opportunities for Leadership:
This position directly supervises student and temporary attendant employees.

Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience:
3-4 years of experience in golf course retail operations or a related field.
Job-Related Skills:
Operate office equipment, golf carts, course maintenance equipment, computer skills required Ability to lift 50 lbs
Licenses & Certifications:
Valid Tennessee Driver's License, Working toward or obtaining a PGA Class A certification.

Position Description
Typical Duties & Responsibilities:
- Assists in the supervision of overall operations of the golf course including coordinating group start times and utilizing the tee time reservation system. Responsible for overall supervision of golf course business in the absence of the Manager.
- Supports the manager in supervising golf course service staff including driving range and golf cart attendants. Oversees daily set up of driving range and golf carts.
- Administers rules and regulations for golf course play consistent with knowledge of the rules of golf and the specific requirements of The Course at Sewanee. This includes monitoring the pace of play, helping to minimize inappropriate conduct and damage to the property, enforcing the dress code policy, stopping play due to lightning / hazardous weather, etc.
- Promotes the golf course to current and prospective students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the general public. Acts as an ambassador of the game and The Course at Sewanee helping to ensure friendly customer service from all golf course staff.
- Supports planning and coordination of golf tournaments and other special events and activities.
- Assists and trains staff in the maintenance of electric golf carts pull carts and the driving range "picker" vehicle used to gather range balls.
- Supports retail and food & beverage operations. Duties include daily sales reconciliation and reports, receiving and taking inventory, displaying merchandise, sales transactions, and the proper service of alcohol, including checking IDs for the legal drinking age.
- Performs golf club repair, including replacing club grips and shafts. Assists customers with proper club selection and sizing/fitting.
- Provides golf lessons/instruction at introductory and advanced levels based on their level of certification and experience.

- Student Contact: Frequent; assisting students and members of the University's golf teams.
- Internal: Infrequent but some participation in the facility and operational planning
- External: Frequent; assisting visitors, answering questions, resolving problems; interacting with vendors and contractors, and interacting with alumni
