Drake Golf Carts & the Role
Drake Golf Carts is a premium South African brand redefining personal and fleet mobility. Founded in 2017 by passionate golfers who wanted something better, we design and hand-assemble distinctive, high-quality electric golf carts and Low Speed Electric Vehicles (LSEVs). Our built-to-order vehicles combine style, performance, and reliability for private estates, golf courses, luxury resorts, and commercial clients across Southern Africa.

We are entering an exciting new phase of accelerated growth. With plans to open additional branches, significantly expand our product offering, and advance our electric drivetrain technology for the next generation of LSEVs, we are looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead operations and help shape the future of the business.

This is a rare opportunity to join a lean, entrepreneurial team at a pivotal moment. You will have broad responsibility and real influence as we scale operations, strengthen systems, and drive the company forward in a fast-paced, premium market.

If you are a strategic yet hands-on leader with strong operational experience, proven people leadership, and a passion for building and growing businesses — we would love to hear from you.

Role & Responsibilities
As General Manager at Drake Golf Carts, you will be the operational backbone of the business — directly managing all Heads of Department, overseeing the full spectrum of daily operations, and ensuring the business meets its strategic and financial objectives. You will work closely with the MD to shape the direction of the company and its subsidiaries, while keeping a hands-on grip on execution, compliance, and performance.

This is a high-responsibility leadership role suited to a seasoned operator who can move fluidly between strategy and detail, and who thrives in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment.

  • Directly manage all Heads of Departments (HODs) and ensure aligned, high- performing teams across the business.
  • Oversee daily operations across Production, Sales, After-Sales, and all support functions.
  • Manage project leads and their deadlines; track delivery against committed timeframes.
  • Drive business strategy, operational direction, and growth initiatives across Drake Golf Carts and its subsidiaries.
  • Oversee cash flow optimisation, loan account reduction, and financial performance against budget.
  • Implement and maintain ERP software, ensuring effective integration, minimal double-entry, and full departmental utilisation.
  • Supervise CRM pipeline hygiene and support the sales team with product availability and order fulfilment.
  • Ensure OHSA, POPIA, and labour law compliance across the business; conduct regular safety audits.
  • Lead HR functions including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, KPIs, reviews, and disciplinary processes.
  • Manage inventory levels, procurement coordination, imports, and logistics across branches.
  • Approve quotes, purchase orders, job cards, and credits; manage work-in-progress and aged jobs.
  • Oversee quality controls, warranty processes, and customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Maintain and continuously improve SOP documentation, workflows, and system processes.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for the MD, including financial performance and operational KPIs.
What We're Looking For
  • Required: Bachelors Degree in a relevant field of study, Commerce or Engineering. Heavy preference for candidates that attained their degree form South African Ivy league institutions such as UCT, UP, WITS & Stellenbosch
  • Required: 5+ years of proven experience in a senior General Management or Operations Management role, ideally in manufacturing, distribution, or a similar industry.
  • Strong people leadership skills with a track record of managing and developing multiple departments and teams.
  • Financial acumen including experience with P&L management, budgeting, and cash flow optimisation.
  • Hands-on experience with ERP systems, CRM platforms, and operational data management.
  • Sound knowledge of OHSA, labour law, and POPIA compliance requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, organisational, and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset.
  • Highly effective communicator who can engage credibly with team members, customers, suppliers, and the MD.
  • Proactive and structured — able to build and maintain systems and processes in a lean, growing business.
  • Valid driver’s licence and own vehicle required.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment where accountability and initiative are valued.

Please do not apply unless you feel genuinely capable of excelling in this position backed by previous experience and achievements.
Package & Benefits
We offer a competitive and transparent remuneration package that reflects the seniority, responsibility, and growth potential of this true General Manager role:
  • Gross monthly salary: R80,000 (negotiable based on experience and qualifications)
  • Performance incentives: Opportunity for performance-based bonuses linked to key operational KPIs, cash flow improvement, and business growth targets as we expand

What truly sets this opportunity apart:
  • A genuine General Manager mandate with broad authority and ownership across operations, people, finance, systems, and strategy
  • Direct influence on the company’s exciting next phase: opening new branches, expanding the product range, and driving the transition to advanced electric drivetrains for Low Speed Electric Vehicles (LSEVs)
  • Close, collaborative working relationship with the CEO in a lean, entrepreneurial environment where your leadership and decisions have visible, tangible impact
  • The career-defining experience of building scalable systems, high-performing teams, and robust processes from the ground up in a premium, innovative South African brand
