First Assistant Golf Professional

Reports to: Director of Golf

General Purpose:
The First Assistant Golf Professional is a crucial role at San Juan Oaks Golf Club, requiring a unique blend of expertise in golf operations, instruction, and customer service. The ideal candidate will bring a passion for the game of golf, a commitment to excellence, and a proven ability to manage diverse aspects of club operations.

Essential Duties:
  • Golf Operations Management: Oversee daily golf operations, ensuring smooth functioning of all golf-related activities. This includes management of the tee sheet, oversight of golf cart fleet, golf shop staff, outside service team and upkeep of all golf related facilities. Provide excellent customer service, including greeting players, booking tee times, answering phones, and handling complaints or issues.
  • Team Leadership and Staff Development: Provide supervision, leadership, and training to the golf operations staff. Foster a culture of professionalism and outstanding customer service.
  • Tournament and Event Coordination: Plan, organize, and execute golf tournaments and special events. Collaborate with the Director of Golf and or Tournament Director for scheduling, preparation, and seamless on-site management.
  • Instruction and Player Development: Develop and conduct comprehensive golf instruction programs, including individual coaching, group clinics, and a focused junior golf program. Perform club fittings and club repair services.
  • Guest Engagement and Growth: Implement strategies to enhance guest satisfaction, increase engagement, and grow the club's membership base.
  • Retail and Merchandising: Manage the golf shop's retail operations, including product selection, inventory management, and sales strategies. Focus on delivering an exceptional shopping experience for guests.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Collaborate with the marketing team to promote the club's offerings effectively. Utilize digital platforms to increase visibility and participation in club programs.
  • Technology and Systems Utilization: Utilize golf-related technology systems for efficient operation. Stay abreast of industry advancements in software and equipment. Stay updated with industry trends, golf technology, and teaching techniques.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Proactively address guest concerns to ensure a high quality of service.
  • Regularly update skills and knowledge in golf instruction and operations.
  • Represent the club in professional golf events and associations.

  • Ability to read and speak English may be required to perform the duties of the job (e.g. the staff may be required to communicate with English speaking customers or co-workers, the manuals for the equipment the staff may use are in English)

Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); college degree preferred. PGA Membership or PGA PGM Associate Program Level 1 or greater. Minimum three years of related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands:

Frequently stands, walks, talks, or listens. Occasionally sits, uses hands, reaches with arms and hands, climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, crouches or crawls. Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds, occasionally works in wet or humid conditions. Occasionally works in outdoor weather conditions. The noise level is moderate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $66,560.00 - $70,000.00 per year
