Job Summary:
The Golf and Grounds Director controls all Golf and Grounds operations. This includes all operations at the golf course, grounds at The Inn, and grounds at the Ranch. Grounds responsibilities include all exterior spaces of the structures to include lawns, streets, trees, sidewalks, hedges, planting beds, walls, porches, etc. Works closely and professionally with GM, Executive Director of Operations, Directors, suppliers, and outside contractors.
The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Pay: $74,000/Year
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

- Direct organization of Golf and Grounds supervisory staff for assigned tasks and priorities.
- Ensure that grounds are maintained in four diamond quality.
- Frequently inspect property grounds to ensure adequate detail and correct horticultural practices.
- Carry out effective communications with employees and property management.
- Coordinate with contractors, sub-contractors, and other departments projects which collaborate with Golf and Grounds department.
- Ensure work is completed on time, within budget and meeting the required standards of quality.
- Establish operating and capital budget requirements of all Golf and Grounds operations and present to management for approval.
- Manage Golf and Grounds operations within the budget plan.
- Ensure that Kronos is monitored daily for the entire department, ensuring staff breaks are taken in accordance with California state laws.
- Approve all changesof status for department personnel and approve all annual reviews for hourly and salaried non-exempt personnel in the department.
- Review monthly P/L reports and prepare monthly and yearly budget variance comments.
- Develop, implement, and update the maintenance program for the Golf and Grounds operation to follow.
- Coordinate and set standards on all contractual agreements necessary on hotel property regarding hardscape, landscape, maintenance repair or service.
- Continually upgrade property including landscape renovation and selection of certain outdoor furnishings to include plant containers, fencing and screening, plant material, and lighting.
- Debris removal including weeds, trees, limbs.
- Coordinate the replacement of vegetation as needed in accordance with the landscaping plan.
- Regularly schedule tree trimming and shrub trimming according to best practices.
- Ensure exterior building surfaces (including walkways, exterior walls, porches, awnings) are pressure washed.
- Manage computerized irrigation system and ensure that all property irrigation systems are working properly, and all vegetation is being irrigated properly.
- Ensure staff are working safely and wearing proper protective equipment while performing their duties.
- Maintain close, productive working relationships with other resort departments as it relates grounds facilities and natural resources, golf cart usage, and golf course functions, policies, and activities.
- Maintain proper pesticide application licensing and record keeping.
- Report to the Engineering department any landscape lighting that needs repair.
- Ensure that all Golf activities are accomplished to maximize guest satisfaction.
- Ensure that all equipment within the Golf and Grounds department is operational and maintained.
- Responsible for ensuring that all employees are aware of the “Our Softer Footprint” Policy, Xanterra’s company-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) and their roles and responsibilities in achieving conformance to the policy.
- Participate in the company’s Director on Duty program.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Previous Golf Course Superintendent or Horticulturist experience at a high level.
- 2-year or 4-year turf degree or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and direct golf course and landscaping personnel.
- Budgetary management experience.
- Willingness and ability to work as part of a resort management team.
- Strong attention to detail, passion for excellence and a positive attitude.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to analyze and solve problems; efficiently handle multiple duties under pressure with minimal supervision; work flexible hours as required including nights/weekends.
- Must be able to demonstrate professional and courteous behavior with all guests and employees.
- California Pesticide Applicators License within 3 months of hire.
- Valid Driver’s License (45-day grace period from date of hire until applicant must have valid driver’s license.)
- Must be able to lift or move objects weighing up to 30 pounds.
- Must be able to stand for eight hours at a time.
- Must be able to work in extreme temperatures.
