Director of golf (Full Time) - UNITED STATES

GolfJobs

Well-known member
Austin Country Club | Austin Texas United states
Expires: January 4, 2024

Austin Country Club was formed in 1899, originally chartered as Austin Golf Club. In 1905 the

name was changed to Austin Country Club. It is believed to be one of the oldest existing clubs in

Texas. The Club was founded by Lewis Hancock, a distinguished citizen and former Mayor of

Austin. Mr. Hancock served as the Club President for 17 years and created an atmosphere that

made it a privilege to be a member.

The Club built a two-room clubhouse in 1902 and a nine-hole golf course with sand greens at its

original Hancock location. In 1905 additional land was purchased to expand to 18 holes, and in

1908 a new larger clubhouse was built. Unfortunately, that clubhouse was destroyed in a fire in

1934. With only $12,000 in insurance, the Club used materials from buildings The University of

Texas was tearing down to build a new clubhouse entirely of brick and stone. In 1949, needing

more space, the Club relocated to the Riverside Drive location in east Austin. This new golf

course was designed by Perry Maxwell and still exists today as Riverside Golf Course.

Today, Austin Country Club is located along the banks of the Colorado River with Austin's iconic

Pennybacker Bridge as its backdrop. The Club relocated to this location in 1984 and built a new

golf course designed by Pete Dye. The property spans over 180 acres of hill country vistas and

canyon views in Davenport Ranch, 10 miles west of downtown Austin.

The Club is seeking a Director of Golf to begin in late 2023. There is a history of long tenured and

accomplished professionals who have held this position at the Club. The successful candidate

will be just the fourth Golf Professional in the Club's history. The selected individual will be

succeeding longtime Director of Golf and 2021 Southern Texas PGA Golf Professional of the Year

Dale Morgan, who is retiring after 28 seasons at the Club.

The Director of Golf is a highly visible and engaged ambassador who serves to uphold the Austin

Country Club culture, ensuring outstanding service to members and guests through all

interactions in the golf operation. Given the visibility of this role and the active nature of the

Club, it is required the individual possess a high level of organization, time management and

communication skills. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of continued

achievement within a best-in-class organization which has experienced the highest level of

quality.

As a key member of the leadership team, the Director of Golf is accountable for operational,

instructional, personnel, budget and golf shop management. It is imperative the selected

candidate promptly integrates into the core values and culture of the Club. Establishing

effective and close working relationships while earning the respect of the peer leadership team,

members and Club team members will be essential for success in this role.

The Club has a proud history of long tenured team members across all departments. It is the

Club's desire to identify an individual who can serve the Club for an extended period of time.
