O’Neill, Jr./Fresh Pond Golf Course, an environmentally sensitive and challenging public nine-hole golf course operating from early spring through early December located on part of the Fresh Pond Reservation and operated under the guidelines of the Fresh Pond Stewardship Plan.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director is responsible for a wide range of activities to ensure the smooth operation of the course and the best possible experience for patrons
The Director will also be a Golf Pro and will conduct him/herself in accordance with the standards accepted by the City of Cambridge and those established by the Professional Golfers Association for golf course directors and professionals
Reporting to the Director of Recreation, the specific duties include, but are not limited, to the following
evelop a comprehensive understanding of the golf course, including physical layout and amenities, programmatic offerings, and facilities and equipment, and assess playing conditions on a regular basis.Supervise full-time professional staff, including one Assistant Golf Professional and the Superintendent, to ensure smooth operation and excellent care of the course, and lead regular staff meetings to ensure a cooperative work environment.Hire, train and supervise FT and PT seasonal staff.Schedule staff hours to ensure seven-day coverage during the playing season.Manage fiscal operations of the course, including monitoring of revenue and expenses, ordering of golf course supplies, collection of daily and member fees, sale of city-purchased merchandise, and rental of golf pull carts and golf carts.Develop and implement a golf tournament schedule and conduct and supervise all tournaments.Support youth programming and promote the sport through partnerships with city and community partners.Work closely with the Director of Recreation and other City departments, particularly the Water Department and the Department of Public Works, to implement capital projects at the golf course.Cooperate with members, patrons, abutters, and others in a professional and productive manner.Represent the City of Cambridge and the Golf Course as necessary at public meetings.Create a plan for off-season use, care and maintenance of the course that matches existing land use policy and the Fresh Pond Master Plan.Oversee the management and care of the Fresh Pond Golf Course dog, which the city owns to control fowl on the course
The Director’s designee may assume this responsibility.Actively engage in and support the Department’s Race and Equity Initiative
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS and preferred qualifications
rofessional Golf Association (PGA) Class A Head Professional or Class A-8 Professional with a minimum of three years of experience at a public and/or private golf course.Demonstrated skills in communicating effectively and responsively with diverse members of the public.Experience managing budgets and revenue.Two to three years of supervisory experience.Ability to work collaboratively with City, DHSP, public school, and community partners.Strong time management and organizational skills.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Demonstrated proficiency in MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, Rec TracThe City of Cambridge’s workforce, like the community it serves, is diverse
