PW Assistant Golf Course Superintendent
Primary Responsibilities:The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible in assisting the Superintendent in performing and managing the day-to-day operations of the course and the maintenance department. He/she will strive to uphold the policies, standards and guidelines set forth by his/her club.
Essential Duties:
[*]Assist with scheduling, maintenance and overall operation of the golf course. [*]Keep the Superinterndent informed of any problems with crew and maintenance operations. [*]Ability to keep the maintenance facility operating in a safe and efficient manner in absence of the Superintendent. [*]Assist Superintendent with work assignments. [*]Assist in scheduling and directing the maintenance activities performed on the course and related areas. [*]Supervise the operation of the maintenance shop. [*]Assist with the preparation of the annual budget and make recommendations for capital expenditures. [*]Oversee the maintenance of all equipment and buying of all golf course supplies and materials necessary to maintain the golf course and related areas with the approval of the Superintendent. [*]Keep accurate records of maintenance activities including but not limited to records on weather data, pest populations, material applications, and locations of hazardous materials. [*]Train employees in the safe operation of all equipment and the use of personal protective equipment. Conduct safety training meetings with staff on a monthly basis. Maintain safety training records in compliance with OSHA regulations. [*]Keep current with the latest equipment and new cultural practices, fertilizers, chemicals and their applications, and pest control methods and materials. [*]Responsible for overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the unit. [*]Carries out supervisory responsibilities under the Superintendent and in accordance with applicable laws. [*]Perform other related duties assigned.
Other Duties:
[*]Maintain departmental expenses and payroll within budgets guidelines. [*]Responsibilities include directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. [*]Ability to calculate figures and amounts in order to properly mix chemicals as directed. Calibrate sprayers and fertilizer spreaders. [*]Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical journals and financial reports. [*]Ability to read and understand documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures and manuals. [*]Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. [*]Ability to effectively present information to senior management. [*]Supervises maintenance personnel.
Working Conditions:
[*]Outdoors in various weather conditions. [*]Normal office conditions
Work Hours:
[*]Must be able to work schedule set by Superintendent; normally day shifts with the possibilities of weekends. [*]Must be able to work more than 40 hours a week.
Equipment Use:
[*]Proficient in the use of a computer and with Hotel's word, spreadsheet and other required software. [*]Ability to use the telephone and radio. [*]Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and fax machines.
Mental and Physical Demands:
[*]Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines is met. [*]Able to manage stressful and challenging situations. [*]Able to sit at a desk to do administrative duties.
Communication Demands:
[*]Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, department managers, and guests/clients. [*]Ability to communicate over the phone.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
[*]Minimum of 2 year experience in related position. [*]Ability to work in and manage a team environment. [*]Good reporting and communication skills. [*]Current driver's license.
