Byron Bay Golf Club is a Members owned facility that is currently ranked in the Top 100 Public Access Golf Courses in Australia. Over the past 2 decades the 18 Hole Championship Golf Course has undertaken various large scale in house projects to raise the playability standards and level of golfing expectations and experiences. Over the next few years we are in the final stages of completing some further major works to enhance the golf course and its appeal to the golfing market.

We are currently seeking applications to fill this fulltime salary position. The Role:

The successful candidate will require a genuine enthusiastic approach to their career path and have a strong eye for detail in Turf and Golf Course Management. Be willing to look outside the box and continually look for the edge to improve the golf course and the way it is managed.

Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, this position will require a flexible, versatile team player who has a strong understanding of the golf course requirements. Including the day to day, short term and long term goals, and efficiencies required to meet the high level of presentation, expectations and improvements. The Assistant Superintendent will have the ability to work within a fast paced environment to meet timelines, objectives and manage staff accordingly to achieve these results.

Position Requirements:
  • Cert III Turf Management (Diploma in Horticulture - Turf, would be advantageous)
  • Chemical Accreditation – AQF3 (can be obtained once successful)
  • Possess strong communication and interpretation skills
  • Exceptional daily planning and efficient time management skills
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills in a team environment
  • Ability to work within a team and lead a team in a prompt and professional manner
  • Exceptional eye for detail across all facets of Golf Course Management
  • Understanding of WHS policies and Safe Work Procedures
  • Willingness to be a proactive team member to continually enhance the Golf Course Management operation on a daily, weekly and yearly basis
  • Strong knowledge and practices in planning and applying of IPM and Nutrition programs
  • Experience with Rainbird Stratus II and Rainbird decoder irrigation systems would be advantageous
  • Irrigation technician experience would also be advantageous
  • Basic Turf equipment repairs and maintenance knowledge
  • Experience with all associated golf course maintenance task (onsite and offsite training provided)
  • Proficient and safe operation of all golf course equipment
  • Ability to safely train staff and volunteers across all operations of golf course management
This position will require the individual to be versatile, flexible and possess a positive attitude to continually improve the Golf Course, along with growing their individual knowledge and skill set to progress their career.
