General Description



The City of Madison Parks Division is hiring Assistant Golf Professionals for the 2024 golf season. The successful candidates will work to coordinate overall management of the four City of Madison Golf Courses. These positions work directly with the Golf Director and Golf Programming Assistants and must exhibit a diverse skill set to oversee a fast moving, large scale hospitality driven operation with over 100 team members. Working as an extension of the Golf Director and Golf Programming Assistants, this role oversees the day-to-day management of clubhouse operations including managing, training, and scheduling staff to maximize efficiency and customer experiences in the areas of food and beverage service, point of sale transactions, and outdoor operations. Additionally, these positions will be expected to resolve customer service issues, assure quality control expectations are met daily, manage communications with maintenance staff, assure cleanliness and readiness of the clubhouse and related facilities and amenities, and assure accurate daily counts and reports are performed, especially as it relates to inventory control, point of sale reports etc. Display and execute comprehensive leadership of all clubhouse operations in the absence of the Golf Director and Golf Programming Assistants.
The current recruitment is to fill seven (7) vacant positions.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
  • Work directly with the Golf Director and Golf Programming Assistants on all items to promote longevity and financial sustainability and grow operational proficiencies.
  • Oversee day to day clubhouse operations.
  • Aid in facilitating needs of all four locations to create operational efficiencies.
  • Assist the Outing and Events Coordinator with any items related to any events or outings that are being hosted at their specific course, including non-golf activities.
  • Manage details related to the outing or event such as number of players, number of carts, creating cart signs, scorecards or a scoreboard, staging carts, etc.
  • Ensure inventory requirements are followed and completed daily and monthly.
  • Provide point of sale support for daily operations, including addressing modifications and overall build of the system to facilitate ease of operations and essential reporting needs.
  • Create daily tasks for Attendant Staff to ensure a clean and presentable workplace and grounds surrounding clubhouses.
  • Communicate with and schedule leagues for each season, including building tee sheets for each that provide diverse options of play.
  • Work closely with the Golf Director and Golf Programming Assistants to review financials for each course to establish success and identify needs.
  • Train attendant/food and beverage staff in corresponding areas of responsibility.
  • Aid in scheduling of facilities to ensure coverage, while balancing budget related restraints.
  • Oversee golf course, concession, golf cart, driving range and merchandise operations.
  • Handle point of sale transactions.
  • Open and close facilities. In the case of inclement weather, take appropriate actions to ensure the safety of course patrons and employees.
  • Provide support for tournaments, leagues and other events.
  • Support programs, outings and tournaments through clubhouse and course set up, handling special needs, properly staffing and providing for excellent customer experiences.
  • Communicate with maintenance staff on all upcoming events, daily schedules and needs.
  • Perform related work as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Two (2) years of work experience in food and beverage and customer service in a golf course clubhouse setting.
  • Associate's Degree in Golf, Recreation, or Hospitality Management or related field may be substituted for one (1) year of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Golf, Recreation, or Hospitality Management or related field OR PGA Class A certification may be substituted for two (2) years of experience.
If an applicant does not possess the experience listed above, HR will review the application materials to determine if the applicant possesses the following equivalent experience:

Two (2) years of experience in applying the following:
  • Standard techniques of playing and teaching golf, rules of golf, and etiquette.
  • Use of computers and computer software applicable to duties of the position such as data management, Rectrac / scheduling and registration software.
Familiarity with the following:
  • Golf-related concessions, equipment and merchandising.

Special Requirements
  • Licensed Bartender within 30 days of hire. Failure to obtain will result in forfeiture of position.
  • Certified Food Manager within 60 days of hire. Failure to obtain will result in forfeiture of position.
  • Employees will be expected to work evenings and weekends for lessons, leagues, special events, and as otherwise required.
  • Registered PGA apprentice/affiliation/membership status preferred, but not required.
Physical Requirements: Employees are expected to physically access all City of Madison golf courses and facilities.

  • Payroll title for this position is Professional Aide 3
Stated salary will receive a 4% wage increase effective December 24, 2023.
