Palmer Sea Reef Golf Course is North Queensland’s premier golf course and the only tropical links course in Australia. Situated in Port Douglas 60km north of Cairns, the links-style layout at Palmer Sea Reef was designed by the world renowned Thomson, Wolveridge & Perrett design. It lies less than a couple of kilometres from Port Douglas’s famous Four-Mile Beach. Classic links components such as pot bunkers, greenside humps and hollows, even a double green have been brought into the design creating a truly unique destination golfing experience for our members and guests. We are looking for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to assist the Superintendent in the day to day operations of the golf course.
Our purpose is to deliver an unforgettable golfing experience to our valued members and guests. This doesn’t begin and end on our golf course, this extends to the experience they receive throughout their time at the property. Being a member at Palmer Sea Reef, whether that’s a golf member or team member, we aim to create a social environment and inclusive community.
This position is a great opportunity for any turf manager looking to develop their skills and progress their career within the golf industry. It’s a highly sought after opportunity to join a great team who are passionate about what they do and take pride in delivering a great experience for our members and guests. We are a forward thinking club looking to begin on key works around the course to maintain the immaculate condition of our championship course all year round for the Members and Guests. This is a key position within the Golf Course Management Department. Working directly with the Golf Course Superintendent to help develop a daily work schedule and coordinate the related activities and necessary equipment with the staff.
Enjoy a work life balance in a tropical paradise with Port Douglas known for its beach resorts and as a base for visits to both the Great Barrier Reef, the world's largest reef system, and Daintree National Park. Flexible hours are available, but generally Monday/Friday with weekend work on a rotating 76 hr rostered fortnight.
About you:
The ideal applicant will be a motivated individual with a strong dedication to golf course maintenance and WHS practices. They must possess outstanding communication and leadership abilities and be able to work effectively with a team and wider stakeholders.
Bringing a vast range of experience and willing to put forward new ideas and practices will be well regarded but also keen to progress their knowledge in all turf maintenance practices. It would be greatly advantageous to understand Rainbird irrigation systems and have experience in maintaining warm season grasses

General Requirements:
- Certificate III or Diploma in Sports Turf Management
- Chemical spraying certificate, with practical experience in chemical and fertiliser application and reading safety data sheets
- Practical experience in the operation and maintenance of all Golf Course maintenance machinery
- Experience and sound knowledge of irrigation, repairs, programming, and troubleshooting
- Strong work ethic with demonstrated ability to motivate and lead a team
- Effective communication skills with ability to liaise with team members and members of the public
- Hold a current Australian driver licence
- Valid, full-time Australian working rights
