Supervisor Golf Turf
(1 Position Available) Term of Employment: Full-Time, Continuing
Rate of Pay: Out-of-Scope Band 4
Location: Lloydminster Golf and Curling Centre
Duties:

The Supervisor, Golf Turf is responsible for all phases of Golf Maintenance, Agronomic operations, cost control, and personnel. Works closely with, advises, and coordinates with Manager parks and green spaces on any issues related to golf course maintenance.

Operation
  • Monitor develop, recommend and implement operating procedures and programs that provide for efficient construction, operation, maintenance, and preventative maintenance of all systems under control. This would include but not be limited to the care and maintenance of the turf, ornamental plants, shrubs, trees and wetlands, fairways, greens on the facility grounds.
  • Oversees the planting of new vegetation, spraying, pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs, preparation of soil plant beds for aesthetically pleasing arrangements and tending to high stress areas.
  • Coordinates/plans for equipment and site planning of the golf courses grounds.
  • Advises and assists with capital planning for equipment and course upgrades.
  • Assist with creating and monitoring annual operating budgets, in conjunction with Parks Management.
  • Prepare periodic reports and maintain records of programs and personnel.
Supervision and Leadership
  • Promote a work environment that is productive, reliable, and efficient and is geared to service excellence by establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with the public, contractors and internal staff with as strong focus on customer service.
  • Provide management direction to employees by planning, assigning and supervising work for the construction, operation and maintenance of City Golf Course and related works to industry standards.
  • Ensure the optimum utilization of staff through their selection, training development, and motivation.
  • Develops schedules that optimize employee’s usage and maximize efficiencies.
  • Ensure performance discussions are completed, maintaining two-way dialogues on work, expectations and results.
  • Set clear expectations, monitor, evaluate, reward and develop performance within the team.
  • Review and authorize daily timesheets.
  • Develop positive behavior and attitude among assigned staff.
Safety and Environment
  • Assesses and develops Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and Standard Workplace Procedures (SWP’s) to provide for efficient operation and maintenance of all golf course aspects, while ensuring a safe environment for staff and visitors.
  • Ensure that all staff are participating and are actively using the City’s safety policies, procedures and systems.
  • Participates and assists in the facilitation of the safety management system by; conducting monthly safety meetings/inspections, conducting pre-job safety meetings, update HIAC and other site-specific safety documents, assist in conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions, ensuring all required safety training for staff is up to date.
  • Ensure that equipment inspections are occurring as per safety policies.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance with all aspects of operations.
  • Participate with the golf course OH&S Committee.
Communication and Customer Service
  • Build cohesive relationships with suppliers, contractors and other City Departments with a strong focus on customer service.
  • Respond to complaints and inquiries from the public, maintains good public relations and a high quality of service to the public.
Other
  • Other related duties as required.
Schedule:
Standard hours are Monday-Friday between 6am – 3pm during golf season, and 7:00am – 4:00pm in the off season with the occasional requirement to work outside these standard hours.
Qualifications:
  • Post secondary diploma or degree in Turf Management program or related field from a recognized institution.
  • Saskatchewan Pesticide Applicators License.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s License registered in Alberta or Saskatchewan with an acceptable Driver’s Abstract is required. This position may be required to operate a personal or municipal vehicle for business purposes.
  • Minimum five year’s related experience.
  • Must be proficient with computers with basic to intermediate knowledge in Excel and Word.
  • The desire and ability to pursue additional educational qualifications as required.
  • Ability to make decisions, provide direction and problem solve.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Working in a municipal and/ or unionized environment would be considered an asset.

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
