Head Mechanic Turf Technician
Box Hill Golf Club is an 18-hole private members club located in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne.
A full-time Head Mechanic turf technician position is available on the golf course maintenance team. This role is responsible for maintaining all golf course machinery and equipment used to keep turf services in suitable playing conditions throughout the year.
Reporting directly to the Course Superintendent, the role involves participation in daily maintenance activities and assisting with planning plant and equipment replacement programs. While experience with golf and turf machinery is beneficial, it is not required as full training will be provided. Recently qualified mechanics are encouraged to apply, as this position will be part of the management team and responsible for operating a dedicated workshop.
Key Responsibilities
· Machinery Maintenance and Repair: Oversee the upkeep, repair, and servicing of all turf-related machinery and equipment, including greens, fairways, rough and trim mowers, utility vehicles, aerators, turf sprayers, bunker rakes, tractors, and golf carts. The ability to diagnose and resolve faults in both petrol and diesel engines as well as electric and hydraulic systems is crucial.
· Workshop Management: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workshop environment. Apply and uphold Work Health and Safety (WHS) standards and best practices, ensuring that all maintenance and repair activities meet regulatory and club requirements.
· Planning and Record-Keeping: Participate in planning and scheduling the replacement of plant and equipment. Maintain precise machinery service and maintenance records, documenting all repairs and scheduled services to monitor equipment longevity and compliance.
· Light Fabrication and Welding: Perform welding and light fabrication tasks as needed to extend the life of equipment and ensure the reliability of machinery used on the course.
· Course Assistance: Support the golf course maintenance team with mowing and general maintenance tasks during busy periods or as required, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to contribute wherever needed.
· Team Collaboration: Work effectively within a team environment, communicating clearly and professionally with colleagues and other departments to ensure maintenance activities align with course operations and scheduling.
What we require
We are looking for:
Applicants will work 38 hours per week with flexible schedules, plus optional rotational weekend overtime. Wages are based on experience.

What we require
We are looking for:
Mechanical industry qualification or related mechanical experience.
Industry experience and knowledge in maintaining and repairing, diesel- and petrol-powered motors.
Physical capability to perform manual work.
An interest in the golf industry would be an advantage.
A team player who is a self-starter can work effectively managing their workload
Ability to multi-task, prioritise and work efficiently.
Experience with cylindrical mowers an advantage but not essential
Attention to detail, can use initiative and has the ability to problem solve.
