The Research and Development internship will develop a quality control tool utilizing image data collection platform and novel optimization techniques for golf ball finishing in a mass-production setting. Autonomous visual inspection provides a rapid and robust method for golf ball finishing quality control, which ensures consistent performance, durability and cosmetics of the golf ball. This project will have both hands-on engineering problem solving and software optimization tool construction tasks.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Construct an image acquisition platform to consistently collect images of golf balls
- Utilize image processing tools to extract relevant data from the collected images
- Develop optimization algorithms with novel tools, e.g. machine learning, to establish pass/fail standards for collected images for golf ball QC
- Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Strong analytical, reasoning, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work across teams including global cross-functional teams, and manage priorities to accomplish multiple tasks
- Passion for sports required, with passion/interest/knowledge for golf strongly preferred
- Experience using non-linear optimization and machine learning based techniques, preferably in MATLAB environments
- Experience in image processing tools such as MATLAB, Python or ImageJ
- Experience in mass production environment, especially in quality control is a plus
- Undergraduate, completed junior or senior year of Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Machine Learning or Mechanical Engineering
