Under direction, plans, organizes, supervises, and teaches fundamentals of golf to customers of all ages and abilities.

Develops , promotes, and teaches golf clinics to various customer segments.


Provides private individual and small group instruction.


Coordinates with other Thorncreek coaches to do large group instruction (6+).


Recruits, promotes, and coaches Thorncreek PGA Junior League team/s.


Updates point-of-sale software daily to track lessons given.


Co mmunicates with roster of students regarding any weather delays or cancellations.


Works with Golf Professional and Golf Course Superintendent to develop on-course instruction when available.


Performs other du ties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

Requires High School Diploma or GED. One or more seasons as a coach or instructor at a golf facility (indoors or outdoors). Tier 3 Instructors are required to have at least 5 years' experience teaching golf lessons. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Licensing and Certification:
PGA Certified Professional and additional specialized certification such as Teaching & Coaching, GOLFTEC, Titleist Performance Institute, or LGPA Certification is required for Tier 3 Instructors.

May need the ability to travel to various locations as needed.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.

Knowledge of the game of golf, and golf etiquette.

Knowledge of golf instruction to participants of all abilities.

Knowledge of Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid activities.

Skill in performing Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid activities.

Skill in instructing and demonstrating fundamental golf skills to participants of all abilities.

Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.

Ability to read, interpret, and apply operating policies and procedures.

Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.

Ability to listen well and communicate effectively with the public.

Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically, and emotionally stressful situations.


Physical & Mental Requirements

While performing the essential duties of this position, the employee is required to balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, stand, walk, lift, grasp, feel, talk, hear, and make repetitive motions. The position requires light work; exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned. The employee is subject to both inside and outdoor environmental conditions, which may include extreme heat, fumes, odors, and dust.

Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
