Overview
A hidden gem, the Valley View Golf Course is just a 45 minute drive from Nelson or Castlegar through the beautiful Slocan Valley on Highway Six. Valley View is a nine hole course with separate tees for the back nine. A round of eighteen holes plays as a 5,411 yard, par 70 course that contains sand traps and some water hazards and offers rewarding enjoyment for golfers of any caliber.
Job Description
As the Golf Course Superintendent, you will be responsible for managing the day to day needs of the grounds. Working closely with a volunteer board of directors, you will provide regular updates to the board about the status of the course and help determine how its resources need to be allocated accordingly.
Job Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS
– Need to have a solid understanding of turf care practices; must possess knowledge of how to properly irrigate, fertilize, aerate, apply sprays, mow grass, and fix/maintain equipment
– Knowing how to properly open up the course in the spring and put it to bed in the fall
– Working with the board to develop an annual budget
– Supervising/training staff and volunteers, preparing work schedules, and checking hours
– Approving and ordering supplies for regular course maintenance
– Maintaining a close working relationship with the Clubhouse Manager and clubhouse attendants.
– Hold a valid driver’s license and can provide your own transportation to and from work, including picking up supplies.
EDUCATION
Formal education in agronomy is an asset but not required.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 2 years of experience in golf course maintenance.
Knowledge of mechanics is definitely preferred
