Job Title: Director of Sports Retail
Reports To: Director of Golf
Job Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. College a plus. Some courses in sales, marketing, buying, and computers. Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend the English language at a level sufficient to communicate effectively staff.
Training and Experience: 3 years in a retail environment. Must be able to operate a cash register, computer, and telephone.
Job Knowledge: Must have working knowledge of computer, inventory control, cash register, phone, and all aspects of golf buying including fashion and accessories. Knowledgeable of the game of golf.
Job Summary: Directs all aspects of golf shop shop buying, sales, marketing, and inventory control. Maintains constant contact with area representatives and full knowledge of buying trends. Job may include buying for the tennis and gym operations.
Physical Abilities: Must have high energy and be able to work for long periods of time in smaller quarters, and be able to lift 30 pounds above head to include using a stepladder to reach up for boxes.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
1.Must be able to work a flexible schedule, to include weekends, holidays and split shifts.
2. Arrive to work on time, consistently.
3. Upon entering the property, arrive in proper uniform, crisp, clean and in good repair.
4. Hair must be clean and cut in a becoming style; management has final approval.
5. Attend all required training, safety courses; attend office and departmental meetings.
6. Report any safety hazards, follow up that hazard has been corrected, and assist with providing a safe work environment.
7. Greet members and guests by name whenever possible.
8. Open/Close the Golf Shop.
9. Answer the phone cordially.
10. Sell and display shop merchandise.
11. Help members and guests with selection of merchandise.
12. Write up sales and collect money or process billing.
13. Order and receive merchandise for PV.
14. Display merchandise in a pleasing manner for both shops.
15. Keep shop and its contents tidy and presentable.
16. Provide and update shop inventory for Ponte Vedra Inn and Club.
17. Schedule meetings with a staff of two individuals under your management.
18. Coordinate tournaments and special events for the members and guests.
19. Perform and follow up on all duties assigned by the Director of Golf.
20. Assist Director of Golf to provide an efficient and profitable merchandising plan, ensuring proper inventory levels and maximize profit margins.
21. Purchase, receive, enter, price and display merchandise in accordance with the high standards of the club.
22. Stay current with fashion trends of the golf apparel industry to conduct the buying of merchandise.
23. Monitor merchandise trends in the golf shop and the golf industry.
24. Assist Director of Golf in preparation of golf retail marketing plan.
25. Attend trade shows and seminars, and see other golf shops.
26. Monitor storeroom for arrivals on a daily basis.
27. Conduct sales promotions through displays and shop decorations, create exposure through golf industry publications, social media sources, monthly newsletters and brochures.
28. Coordinate golf staff seminars for product knowledge.
29. Coordinate with other departments to order uniforms for employees, and amenities for special guests and groups.
30. Continually create an exceptionally welcoming, positive and friendly environment while presenting a boutique-like shop in line with the expectations of a 5 diamond property.
31. Create and implement a corporate retail sales plan for our resort groups.
32. Create and implement special merchandise events including but not limited to trunk shows, themed events and special programs for both the membership as well as resort guests/groups.
33. Maintain visibility in the golf shop by working the retail floor as well as the counter area.
34. Supervise and direct clerks and merchandising assistants and assist in their hiring and reviewing process.
35. Maintain a clean and well organized golf shop.
