Division: Management & Non-Union (MAN010)
Director of Golf
Primary Responsibilities: Provide direction and overall coordination of operations of the golf courses on the resort to include maintenance, services provided and merchandise sold for the Resort. Develop and communicate standard operating procedures, create promotional programs, management development and quality course conditions among staff. Prepare annual operating and CIP budget. Responsible for financial forecasts and expenditures, personnel selection and staffing and the day-to-day operations of the department.
Essential Duties:
[*] Plan, organize, direct and manage the day-to-day operation of the golf course department. [*] Develop and implement standard operating procedures and policies for the department. [*] Develop and implement sales and marketing strategies to promote golf course to maximize profit. [*] Be current on developments in the world of golf and present the facility as being a leader in positive innovation. [*] Prepare annual operating and CIP budget; establish golf rates. [*] Review golf shop merchandise sale with buyer and golf shop manager; make recommendations. [*] Oversee Resort Retail operations. Liaise with retail consultants to establish controls and inventory levels, manage staffing, and profitability within retail operations. [*] Manage department following company policies, procedures and the terms and conditions of the CBA. [*] Ensure safety training and standards are maintained. [*] Review, approve and verify department payroll. [*] Hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel and discipline department staff. [*] Promote healthy communication and positive morale within managed areas. [*] Facilitate and resolve employee and guest relation issues. [*] Greet and welcome golfers in a friendly manner and personalize the service. [*] Oversee the publishing and distribution of informational and promotional literature on the golf courses. [*] Perform other related duties as assigned or required. Other Duties: [*] Book tournaments to increase business and promote golf courses. [*] Assist homeowners with various requests. [*] Work with the superintendent to coordinate golf maintenance projects while maximizing revenue. [*] Attend resort management meetings. [*] Promote golf lessons, clinics and member to include but not limited to bocce ball. [*] Conduct regular department meetings. Working Conditions: [*] Ordinary office conditions. [*] Outdoors in various weather conditions. [*] Indoors in the golf shop, storage room and cart barn. Work Hours: [*] Must be able to shift and days set by the General Manager. [*] Must be able to work long and irregular hours. [*] Must be able to work more than 50 hours per week. Equipment Use: [*] Proficient in the use of a computer and with the resort's word, spreadsheet and other required software. [*] Ability to use the telephone [*] Ability to use various office equipment including but not limited to calculators, photocopiers and facsimile machines. [*] Operate golf carts, electric and gas utility carts. Mental and Physical Demands: [*] Ability to prioritize and organize workload to ensure deadlines are met. [*] Able to manage stressful and challenging situations. [*] Able to stand, walk, bend, reach to oversee and assist in golf operations, greet golfers. [*] Able to sit at a desk to do administrative duties. [*] Lift and carry up to and over 50 lbs. Communication Demands: [*] Must have the ability to communicate verbally and in writing to employees, department manager and guests/clients. [*] Ability to write memos, procedures, and correspondence to clients or guests. [*] Ability to communicate over the phone. Minimum Qualification Requirements: [*] 4 year college or equivalent in related work experience. [*] PGA member in good standing. [*] Skills to effectively supervise and manage the department and meet goals. [*] Ability to analyze financial information. [*] Must be pleasant, smiling and friendly. [*] Must be able to multi-task [*] Hawaiian Language Speaking, preferred
